This policy explains what information we collect, why we need it and who receives it. It also explains your rights and how to contact us about your information.

Information you give us
When you complete our form, we collect the answers you provide. These cover:
- Your monthly budget.
- The sort of car you are looking for: used, new, electric or not sure.
- Your own description of your credit history: good, fair, poor or not sure.
- Your first name and last name.
- Your date of birth, to check you are 18 or over.
- Your email address and phone number.
If you contact us, we also receive the information in your message and any documents you choose to send. This may include questions about an enquiry, a request about your information or details of a complaint.
Please only send information relevant to your enquiry. If you are sending information about someone else, make sure you have the right to share it.
Information in your browser
Form answers sit in session storage in your own browser tab while you complete the form, until you submit them. This storage is cleared at the end of the tab session. Information you have already submitted is handled separately under this policy.
The site sets no cookies. It has no Google Analytics or advertising tags. It may count visits using a small script of its own. That script stores nothing on your device, uses no identifier and sends only the kind of page visited, a general source and which form steps were reached. The source may be search, direct, ad or the name of a referring website.
Why we use your information
We use your form answers to handle your request and send your enquiry to a car finance specialist. The specialist then contacts you to explain the options and give any quote or advice. A lender decides any application and provides any finance.
Where necessary to act on your request for a quote or proposed agreement, we rely on taking steps at your request before entering into a contract. This does not mean you are entering a finance agreement with us.
We also rely on legitimate interests where appropriate. These include running our enquiry service, responding to messages, keeping relevant records and understanding visits through the limited counting described above. We must weigh those interests against your rights and the effect on you. You can object to processing based on legitimate interests.
Where we must use or keep information to meet a legal or regulatory duty, our lawful basis is legal obligation. This may apply to records needed to handle complaints or respond to a regulator.
Who receives your information
Your enquiry goes to a car finance specialist. This is an FCA-authorised firm, which may be a credit broker or a lender. It may pass your enquiry to a limited number of lenders. We do not search the whole market and we do not give advice.
The specialist and any lender are responsible for explaining their own use of your information, terms and credit searches. Read their privacy notices before proceeding. They may need more information from you to consider an application.
Service providers may process information where needed to operate the website, support the form or handle communications and records. They may only use information as permitted by their role and the applicable data protection requirements.
Information may also need to be shared with regulators, public authorities or professional advisers where necessary to meet a legal duty, handle a dispute or protect legal rights.
How long we keep information
We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purpose it was collected for. We do not apply one period to every type of record. The relevant factors include:
- Whether your enquiry or question is still being handled.
- Any legal or regulatory record keeping requirements.
- Whether information is needed for a complaint or dispute.
- The type of information and whether keeping it remains necessary.
When information is no longer needed, it should be deleted or made anonymous. A specialist or lender may have different retention requirements, which they must explain in their own privacy notice.
Security and international transfers
We must use appropriate measures to protect personal information against loss, misuse and access without permission. Access and sharing must be limited to what is needed for the relevant purpose.
If using a service provider involves transferring personal information outside the UK, the transfer must meet UK data protection requirements. This may involve an adequacy decision or suitable contractual safeguards. Contact us to ask whether your information is transferred and for details of any safeguards that apply.
Your rights
Depending on the circumstances, you can ask to access your information, correct inaccurate information, erase information, restrict its use or receive information in a portable format. You can also object to use based on legitimate interests.
These rights have conditions and exceptions. For example, some records may need to be kept to meet a legal duty. Email hello@carolo.co.uk to make a request. We may need enough information to confirm your identity. Read more about data protection rights on the ICO website.
Decisions and credit searches
We do not make decisions about you based solely on automated processing. We do not decide finance applications or run credit searches. The specialist or lender runs any credit search and must explain it. Ask them how a search may affect your credit record before proceeding.
Questions and complaints
Contact hello@carolo.co.uk if you have a question or concern about your information. You can also complain to the ICO. You do not have to complain to us first.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the service or relevant requirements change. The date at the top shows when this version was updated.
